By Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust, which has run the council-owned leisure facilities for the last 15 years, decided to cease as a charity last week.
The trust announced suddenly last Friday (September 29) that the Bruton Way gym and swimming pool along with Oxstalls Sports Park were to close down that day and more than 150 would lose their jobs.
But insiders say the move is a “real kick in the teeth” as they were shown stats by senior bosses a few weeks ago which suggested their membership figures were going up.
