New bid to build block of flats on site of old Gloucester social club

Plans to build 17 flats on the site of a former Gloucester social club will be debated next week.

Andrew Jamieson, of Gloucester Regen Capital Ltd, wants permission to redevelop the former Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) Club at 87-91 Southgate Street.

Until recently the 0.18 acre site comprised the now disused RAOB clubhouse and its ancillary buildings.

These buildings have recently been demolished and the site is now cleared. Original plans for the site included 14 residential units.

But the latest planning application seeks to redevelop the site by building a block of 13 one bed flats and four two bed apartments.

This scheme shows a new building at the front of the site facing Southgate Street that would be three storeys tall with a further floor in the roof and then drop to three storeys, then a further drop to two storeys at the rear.

The rear section would be built in the style of a mews development. The site would have no off street parking, according to the plans.

But the scheme does include an enclosed refuse store and cycle storage with 20 bicycle spaces.

These would be accessed via a gated passage at the side of the building between the site and the Whitesmiths Arms.

This gated passageway would also access the mews flats at the rear.

Gloucester City Council planning officers have recommended granting permission as they deem the scheme to be acceptable.

The planning committee will consider the proposals at their meeting on December 5.
