MP celebrates 70 years of Nationwide in Gloucester

Richard Graham CMG, MP for Gloucester, visited the Nationwide Building Society branch in Gloucester as part of the branch’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Mr Graham met the team and toured the branch, where he learned about the services Nationwide offers and experienced the new ways Nationwide is serving members through the cost-of-living crisis.

Bank branches are a vital lifeline for the whole community. Recent Nationwide research has found that six in 10 (63%) people value their local branch, with four in ten (40%) valuing face-to-face service and more than a third (36%) saying branches are useful for older people and those with vulnerabilities.

One of the services Mr Graham was interested in was Money Lessons – Nationwide’s financial education programme for children and young people. Colleagues volunteer to deliver sessions on a wide range of topics including savings, budgeting, and staying safe online. As of August 2023, Nationwide has run over 515 events across the UK, with over 50,000 students having taken part so far.

Tom Belshaw, Senior Branch Manager at Nationwide Building Society, said: “We were honoured to welcome Richard Graham MP to our branch in Gloucester today. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the services we’re able to offer and the support we can provide to those struggling with the cost of living – from face-to-face conversations through to supporting members on the telephone. Nationwide remains committed to its branch network through its branch promise, which allows us to continue to support our members through these difficult times.”
