The completion of Gloucester’s ambitious King’s Quarter redevelopment which could bring more than a thousand new jobs to the city centre is on track to be completed next year.
Contractors Kier have produced a time lapse video of the progress made so far at The Forum.
The Forum will include the development of Grade A workspace, a 4-star hotel, rooftop restaurant and state-of-the-art digital conference facilities, as well as a wellness centre and members club.
Gloucester City Council chiefs say the £85m digital quarter is set to attract a mix of tech businesses from start-ups to big occupiers, tapping into the booming digital and cyber-technology industry, as well as providing workspace suitable for ‘hybrid’ working.
The development is part of the massive multi-million pound regeneration scheme underway in the city centre that includes the revamp of Kings Square.
Council leader Richard Cook (C, Kingsway) said he was pleased with the progress at the site so far and is confident they are on track to open in summer 2024.
He recently spoke of his council’s achievements in regenerating the city centre at the authority’s budget meeting on February 23.
He highlighted the key milestones Gloucester City Council has achieved over the last year.
Cllr Cook said: “We are pleased with the progress on site so far, with the target date for opening remaining in summer 2024.
“Over the next few months, we are looking forward to announcing the new operator of the new four-star hotel and occupiers of the new A-grade office space.
“When finished, the site will provide 1,000 new jobs in the city centre along with a 130-bedroom four-star hotel, new gym and food and beverage offerings.”
