Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted with a hammer on a playing field in King’s Stanley.

The incident happened on the village green shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday.

The victim, a 27-year-old Gloucester woman, was walking a friend across the field when they were approached by a woman and two men who were known to them.

The victim was then attacked by the woman, who is believed to have struck the victim in the face with a hammer.

A fight ensued between the two women before the victim managed to break free.

She was treated at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for facial injuries, including a black eye, and a bitten finger.

A 20-year-old woman from Stonehouse and a 20-year-old Gloucester man have been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the case and bailed to return to police on 18 May, pending further inquiries.
