Chris Anderson

Thousands gathered in Brockworth on Bank Holiday Monday to watch daredevil Chris Anderson claim his 17th Cheese Rolling title in one of Britain’s quirkiest annual sporting events.

The 28-year-old careered down the 1:2 incline of Cooper’s Hill in Brockworth, in the fastest time in pursuit of the coveted round of Double Gloucester cheese.

“It’s brilliant, I’m really happy,” he said. “My friend Izzy John sadly passed away recently so this is for him and his family. He won it multiple times.”

Competitors from across the world competed in the bizarre centuries-old event, which now takes place on an unofficial basis due to health and safety concerns over the high numbers of injuries sustained each year.
