Gloucester’s Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has followed their regional success with national recognition at the ‘Visit England Excellence Awards’ in Blackpool.

After winning gold at the ‘South West Tourism Awards’, the TIC was shortlisted for the awards, making It the only tourist information centre to represent the south west.

The TIC fought off competition from Chesterfield, Eastbourne and London to place second behind Thanet in the ‘Visitor Information Provider of the Year’ category, ranking it second best in the country.

The awards recognise businesses that incorporate best practice and demonstrate excellence in customer service throughout their operation and celebrate the very best in quality and innovation.

Short listing is based on partnership working, commitment to excellence, staff training and development, creative marketing, green credentials and ensuring that the service is fully accessible.

Cllr Lise Noakes, cabinet member for culture and leisure said: “It is fantastic that we have received this national recognition on top of the regional award.

“I am very proud of everyone in the team who has worked so hard to provide such a fantastic service. Gloucester is a great place to visit, and we have a fantastic tourism service that helps highlight that.”

Lucy Chilton, visitor services manager at Gloucester Tourist Information Centre, said: “I’m absolutely delighted for everyone in the team here.

“We’ve all worked so hard to make sure visitors to Gloucester have a great time in our city and this award is an amazing achievement for all involved.”
