People are being warned that a ‘Total Wipeout Tour’ event being advertised on social media could be an internet scam.

The September event is being promoted on Facebook and says it will allow attendees to take part in a ‘series of challenges like you may have seen on Total Wipeout’, the hit television show.

But the page gives no details of exactly where or which date it will take place.

Instead the only information given is that the purported event has no official links to the BBC’s show. Despite the lack of details the page urges people to join the event for more information and full listings.

A string of identical events supposedly taking place in other cities are also advertised online, but similarly give almost no detail.

More than 6,500 people have already signed up to go to the Gloucester event.

A number of people posting comments on the page say that it is a scam aiming to ‘data mine’ from those who reply.

One said: “This page is fake and a scam used to get likes, after an amount of time the page will be changed into something else and illegitimately used to promote something or spam you.”

Gloucester News Centre have tried to contact organisers.
