A planning application has been submitted to transform a neglected part of Gloucester Docks into four restaurants.

Gillsepie Yunnie Architects wants to build the restaurants at 23-25 and 27-29 Commercial Road.

A new set of stairs and a ramp leading from Commercial Road into the Victoria Basin are included in the application.

Gloucester City Council acquired a long leasehold of the buildings from the former Regional Development Agency in 2011 and had been negotiating for some time with the Canal and River Trust to purchase the freehold.

Cllr Paul James, Leader of Gloucester City Council and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: “I have always said that I want the Quays, Docks and city centre to act as a single, cohesive destination and this scheme will help us to achieve this.”

“It will draw people from the Quays, through the Docks and onto the city centre. Its waterside setting makes it an ideal location for restaurants. Whilst Gloucester Quays provides the big chain family restaurants, I can see this becoming a hub for high quality dining.”
