Planning a Quarter fit for Kings by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Last week (25th January 2018) Gloucester City Council Leader, Cllr Paul James, announced the planning team for the regeneration of King’s Quarter.
The team charged with developing the King’s Quarter planning application will include internationally recognised firms GVA Planning Consultants, AHR Architects, and Aecom Transport Consultants as well asseveral other specialist leading on key aspects including landscape and environmental design.
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration, said, “I’m very pleased that this project is progressing so well after the well publicised change of approach last year when the city council took on the lead role.
“This team of experts will be making sure Gloucester gets the high quality, sustainable development the city deserves. It will be worth the wait.”
The King’s Quarter development will deliver a mixed use scheme incorporating a new, high quality multi-storey car park, homes, restaurants and other leisure uses including a limited amount of retail space.
What happens next?
In February, the team will start archaeological trial excavations to see what is under King’s Quarter and the surrounding area. If any Roman remains are identified, archaeologists will record and preserve the find and the scheme may be altered accordingly.
The team will then present ideas to cabinet and council once detailed initial designs have been formulated, potentially as early as spring. The planning application itself will be submitted later in the summer.
What about King’s Walk?
Meetings have been taking place and plans are emerging for enhancing the arcade with an improved Eastgate entrance and a car park refurbishment on the cards. It will see new toilets, including a changing facility at first floor level with direct lift access from the car park and the ground floor. The future plans for Kings Quarter will also include new toilets including a further changing facility at ground level in Kings Quarter close to the bus station and a new planned car park which will replace the Bruton Way multi-storey.
