A new ‘Silent Disco’ club event will be quietly descending on the historic Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester at the end of this month.

‘Shush’ will take place on Friday 30th September in the atmospheric and spectacular medieval South Range of Blackfriars, a 13th century monastery tucked away right in the heart of the city.

Silent Discos have become a phenomenon at festivals and nightclubs across the globe, but it’s in unusual and interesting locations that such nights have really captured the imagination of audiences.

The events combine wireless headphone technology and multiple channels playing music by several DJs at the same time. This gives clubbers a choice of musical styles to dance to by flicking a switch on the side of their headphones.

Shush will feature some of Gloucester’s finest DJ talent, including Lil’ Joey and Dan Yip of Housebound playing house/club anthems, Bounce’s Sarah Field spinning indie and rock tunes, and former Gloucester Mayor (no, really) DJ Colossus offering up pop classics and guilty pleasures from the 80s to the present day.

“If you’ve experienced Silent Disco before then you’ll instantly know why it’s such a great night out,” explains promoter Andrew Mitchell-Stead.

“For those who’ve never been before it’s all about giving it a try – we guarantee within seconds people will get the fun factor of the night and spend the whole time flicking between channels and singing along without a care in the world. It’s also brilliant to see the DJs battling to get the room singing and dancing to their tune.”

“With Shush it was all about finding a memorable and unusual venue with wow factor, and Blackfriars is just that, the atmosphere on the night is going to be electric,” adds Andrew.

Cllr Lise Noakes, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “It’s great that the organisers of this event saw how impressive Blackfriars is as a venue and chose it to hold a Silent Disco there.

“I’m not sure how many people can say they’ve danced in a 13th century medieval priory before, but this is a great chance to do just that!”

Tickets are £7 in advance, available from www.seetickets.com, by phone on 01452 503050 or in person from Gloucester Guildhall. Any tickets remaining on the night will be available on the door, priced £9. Doors open 9pm – 1am. Further information can be found at www.facebook.com/silentdiscogloucester
