The St Mary De Crypt Churchyard has started to receive new iron railings this week.

The design of the new railings has been based on old photographs and, as much as possible, will replicate the ones that previously surrounding the yard.

It’s believed that the original railings were removed during the second world war but the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) scheme, in partnership with Gloucester Civic Trust, felt it was time to replace them.

The work is being done by Gloucestershire metalworker Jon Cicuttin, and is jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery fund, Gloucester City Council, and the Gloucester Civic Trust.

The work will be completed early 2017.
