McCarthy and Stone to consult on plans to regenerate quayside site in Gloucester by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
McCarthy and Stone, Britain’s leading developer of retirement accommodation, has acquired an interest in a redundant site off St Ann’s Way, Gloucester, and is proposing to rejuvenate it with Assisted Living (Extra Care) and Retirement Living accommodation, which will significantly improving the housing choice for local older people.
The site, which has been vacant for a number of years, has outline planning consent for redevelopment, forming part of a mixed use regeneration plan for the wider area, which includes new residential, employment, education retail and leisure uses, some of which have already been delivered on surroundings sites.
McCarthy and Stone is committed to engaging with the local community and has offered neighbouring residents, businesses and community representatives the opportunity to meet with the project team to discuss the early proposals. Where possible, McCarthy and Stone will incorporate local feedback as its plans are progressed.
A public exhibition, which will enable the wider local community to view and comment on the emerging plans, is also scheduled to be held in the coming weeks, with dates still to be confirmed.
Darren Humphreys, Regional Managing Director of McCarthy and Stone commented: “We are keen to develop a scheme which will positively contribute to the vibrancy of Gloucester Quays, through the regeneration of a long-standing vacant site. Our plans will also feature a high- quality attractive design, which will also significantly increase the housing choice for local older people on a site which is ideally located close to the city centre.”
Both Assisted Living (Extra Care) and Retirement Living accommodation is designed around the needs of older home-owners, promoting independent, healthy and active lives. However, Assisted Living (Extra Care) developments provide a more specialised form of accommodation, when compared to a traditional Retirement Living scheme. Assisted Living (Extra Care) accommodation provides access to additional on-site care and support, tailored to suit individual needs, together with a high specification of shared facilities, including a full-service restaurant and dining room with on-site catering 365 days a year.
Estate management, care and support for the Assisted Living (Extra Care) part of the development would be provided by McCarthy and Stone through YourLife Management Services, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission. This is a partnership with Somerset Care Group, a not-for-profit care provider. The development would be over-seen by a fully-registered Estate Manager, with staff based on-site, with support available 24 hours a day. Domestic assistance and personal care packages are provided upon need.
