A man was punched and stamped on during an attempted robbery in Gloucester in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident happened close to the Jet garage on London Road shortly before 1am.

The victim, a 48-year-old Gloucester man, suffered grazes, bruising and swelling to the head when two males attacked him after demanding his phone and wallet. They made off empty handed.

A car is believed to have pulled over during the incident and police are eager for the occupants of that vehicle to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery should call 101 and quote incident 25 of 14 November.

A 33-year-old man of no fixed address and a 31-year-oled Gloucester man wereboth  arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery in connection with the incident and have been bailed to return to police on 11 December, pending further inquiries.
