Make a pledge and polish up your health by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
If you are looking to stop smoking, lose weight, cut down on alcohol or be more active then the county council’s healthy lifestyles service is here to help.
On Thursday 6th July, the council funded Gloucestershire Healthy Lifestyles Service will be at the cross in Gloucester city centre to launch their new website and pledge campaign.
Healthy lifestyles coaches, along with representatives from Gloucestershire County Council’s public health team will be encouraging residents to sign up to their website to make a pledge and improve their health.
Since the service was launched by the county council in January 2017, over 2,600 people are working with healthy lifestyles coaches to make positive lifestyle changes. These include stopping smoking, losing weight, eating healthily, increasing physical activity or reducing the amount of alcohol they drink.
With the launch of the service’s new pledge website at www.bestyouglos.org/pledge, residents will find it even easier to sign up to make small, healthy lifestyle choices to improve their health and wellbeing in the long term.
The website has lots of useful tips as well as ideas on what pledges you can make, from cutting down on smoking, to no sugar in tea or coffee or even walking to work instead of driving.
Studies show that making a small change and keeping it up for four weeks means you’re more likely to be able to make the change in the long term. This can help to avoid health problems in later life, so there’s no better time to make the pledge than right now.
Cllr Tim Harman, cabinet member for public health at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Gloucestershire Healthy Lifestyles Service is having a really positive impact on the lives of residents.
“They’re already helping residents to lose weight, stop smoking and reduce their alcohol intake through intensive support. This new campaign will help even more people improve their wellbeing.
“By pledging to make a small change you can make a big difference to your health. Why not join up today and take the first step on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.”
John Russell, service director at Gloucestershire Healthy Lifestyles Service added: “We’re delighted to see so many people improving their health with the help of our lifestyle coaches.
“Following Thursday’s launch in Gloucester, our coaches will also be visiting town centres across Gloucestershire throughout July. We’d love to speak to members of the public about what the service can offer them so drop by and see us to find out more.”
