A resurfacing scheme will get under way on Monday which will bring twofold benefits on a section of the M5 in Gloucestershire.

Highways England announced in December that a programme of work originally proposed for 2018/19 had been brought forward to this year.

The work to resurface a seven-mile section of the M5 between junctions 11A and 12 at Gloucester will start on Monday 6 February.

In recent years, Highways England has been working with local communities and stakeholders to identify a solution to a longstanding noise issue around Upton St Leonards and Hucclecote.

And replacing the ageing road surface with quieter materials will not only bring smoother journeys for motorists but will also help to address the noise problem for communities bordering the motorway.

The northbound carriageway will be fully closed overnight (8pm-6am) between junction 11A and 12 on Monday 6 February, Monday 27 February, Tuesday 28 February, Wednesday 1 March and Thursday 2 March and between the junction 11A exit and entry slip roads on 30 March.

A single lane will be running overnight in both directions on other nights until the resurfacing is scheduled to complete on 31 March.

The junction 11A slip roads will also see overnight closures during the work. The southbound entry slip road will be closed between 8pm and 6am on 13/14/22 February and 3 and 14 March, the northbound exit slip road on 7/8/9/10/23 March and the northbound entry on 21/22/24 March. The southbound entry slip road into Gloucester Services will also be closed overnight on 6/7/8 March, the northbound entry and exit slip roads to the services on 7 February and the northbound exit slip road on 8 and 9 February.
