Investigation launched following death of man in Gloucester by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
An independent investigation by the IPCC will examine how Gloucestershire Constabulary staff responded to a series of emergency phone calls made by a man later found deceased.
Ashley Simmonds, 34, called the police on a number of occasions on the evening of 10 April 2017. Mr Simmonds was then reported missing by social services on 11 April.
His body was discovered in Gloucester Docks on 13 April, and shortly afterwards Gloucestershire Constabulary referred the incident to the IPCC.
The IPCC investigation will examine the actions of police staff who handled the emergency calls, and how the subsequent search for Mr Simmonds was conducted.
Guido Liguori, associate commissioner with the IPCC, said: “Mr Simmonds’s death is a tragedy.
“It is important we establish the facts surrounding this incident and whether the actions of police staff were appropriate and in keeping with training and policy.
“It is also important we establish whether improvements can be made to prevent a similar incident from taking place in future.”
