Hare Lane in Gloucester City Centre to be resurfaced by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
An access route into a car park near the cathedral and town centre shops will be given a well earned facelift.
Hare Lane’s central location means it is regularly used as a route into Hare Lane car park. The ongoing wear and tear caused by car park traffic means that the current road surface is coming to the end of its useful life.
Once complete, 1760 tonnes of fresh new asphalt will improve access to this historic area of the city. A total 800 square metres of road will be re-surfaced by Amey, the county council’s contractor.
The resurfacing will take three days, starting on 13th February until 15th February. Work has been scheduled for half term in order to minimise disruption.
Pitt Street will also be closed to through-traffic for the duration of the work, however the one-way restriction on the road will be temporarily lifted to allow residents of Pitt Street access to their properties
Access to the car park on Park Street will be available via Gouda Way. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the scheme.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: “Hare Lane is a small but important link in the county’s road infrastructure, and as one of the older streets in the city, has had a long and hard working life, used by generations of locals and visitors to the nearby cathedral.
“I’m pleased this section of the city centre road network is to be given a well-earned upgrade so that it can continue in its role helping future generations reach one of the heritage highlights of Gloucester.”
