Fireworks 1

This year’s Fireworks Spectacular in Gloucester Park will get an added twist in the form of a high wire circus performance and dance showcase.

The Fireworks Spectacular is usually a standalone event, however this year with Arts Council of England funding the Fireworks will be accompanied by internationally renowned high wire circus performers and dance group.

This Saturday’s event will start at 9:00pm with a Street Dance showcase performed by local Team MSB. Following the dance showcase, Cirque Bijou will begin their high wire show at 9:20pm followed by the Fireworks Spectacular finale at 9:40pm.

Cirque Bijou create stunning artistic, large scale shows and try to bring the new, unusual and surprising to their audiences and this show in Gloucester Park will be no different.

Geraldine Giddings, Cirque Bijou Show Producer said:”By all accounts, Gloucester’s firework display is one not to be missed and what could make it even more unmissable than adding in a spectacular highline stunt?  We’re delighted to be joining Marketing Gloucester and Titanium Fireworks in Gloucester Park to present a very exciting live performance before the firework display.  A 6m high and 16m long highline walk across the park by our one-of-a-kind ropewalker is a very rare (and nail-biting!) feat – and we are also bringing a brilliant troupe of drummers with beautifully lit costumes and drums.  It will definitely be a fitting opening to the fireworks display! We’re delighted to be back in Gloucester, having brought circus shows to the Tall Ships festival twice in the past”.

Cirque Bijou will be collaborating with Titanium Fireworks who have been behind the Fireworks Spectacular for the past three years in Gloucester and bolster a very impressive portfolio including the London 2012 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.  The two groups have collaborated to make sure their two shows merge into one spectacular performance for the Gloucester public to enjoy free of charge.

Jason Smith, Chief Exec of Marketing Gloucester commented: “The team at Marketing Gloucester are particularly grateful to Arts Council England whose grant has enabled is to bring world class Cirque Bijou to perform in Gloucester before an estimated audience of 10,000. We appreciate the confidence they have shown in us and the investment they are making to help put culture at the heart of the city for all the people of Gloucester. The SoMAC festival of which this event is part is proving to be really putting Gloucester on the cultural map and showing that we as a city can be at the forefront in developing a reputation as somewhere the arts happen”.
