Gloucester joins the nation to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Gloucester will be joining the nation to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen on June 11th.
All residents of the City are invited to join 10 million people from all over the country to celebrate the milestone.
Taking place in King’s Square, Gloucester’s celebrations will begin at 11am and run through the afternoon until 4pm. It will be a family fun day featuring a range of free activities and entertainment. Children of all ages will be able to enjoy funfair style games, balloon modelling, face painting, a sand pit, arts and crafts workshops and lots more – all for free. This wonderful national event is a great chance for the country to get together and show community spirit and support for Her Majesty The Queen who has served for over six decades.
The last time Gloucester saw an occasion similar to this was the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012. The Diamond Jubilee Weekend was a huge success and showed Gloucester’s community spirit, which organisers of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations are hoping to see repeated with the family fun day.
Last month, Gloucester commemorated the Queen’s actual birthday by lighting the beacon on top of Robinswood Hill. The Queen’s ‘official’ birthday is on the 28th of May and is when other members of the royal family join her for the spectacular Trooping the Colour parade which moves between Buckingham Palace, The Mall and Horseguards Parade. The party on the 11 June ties in with celebrations taking place on The Mall and many other parties up and down the country. With a quarter million litter-pickers nationwide having just participated in the ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign, it would appear to be a perfect time to host a street party.
Lise Noakes ,Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Gloucester City Council said: “The Queen’s 90th birthday celebration is another occasion when Gloucester joins the nation in support of her Majesty The Queen. I hope lots of people take the opportunity to come along and have a great time”.
Molly Richards, Event Co-ordinator at Marketing Gloucester said: “It’s great that we can do our bit to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and be part of something that the whole City can get involved in. We hope people can come down and have fun on what will be a memorable day.”
The event has been organised by Marketing Gloucester in conjunction with King’s Walk Shopping Centre with funding from the Gloucester City Council.
