The Gym on Bristol Road in Gloucester will celebrate its sixth year anniversary this Saturday; with staff and members marking the occasion by embarking on a mile-long “lunge-athon”. Those taking part have been fundraising ahead of the event and all money raised will be donated to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) charity.

Members and staff of The Gym on Bristol Road will be setting off at 9:30am on Saturday 16th April from the car park, where they’ll begin a continuous walking lunge for the total distance of one mile. So far, 25 members from The Gym and its employees have signed up to take part; with an estimated £200 raised for the animal charity PDSA so far.

Non-members are welcome to take part in the “lunge-athon” alongside members and staff, with a suggested donation of £5; all of which would go towards the money raised for PDSA. The route taken will be along Bristol road for half a mile, before those taking part will turn around and lunge their way back to The Gym.

With the average lunge covering a distance of just one metre, that means that those participating in the charity “lunge-athon” will have completed approximately 1,609 lunges if they manage to reach the end of the challenge. The lunge challenge is expected to take up to three hours; with some members and staff aiming to complete their mile-long walking lunge at a much faster pace.

The Gym on Bristol Road in Gloucester first opened in  April 2010; meaning that this weekend will mark the business’ six year anniversary.

Nathan Furley, spokesperson for The Gym on Bristol Road in Gloucester, said the following: “We wanted to do something fun to celebrate The Gym’s sixth birthday, but because we wanted to also do a charity drive for PDSA, we knew it had to also be something a little bit challenging. This one mile “lunge-athon” is certainly going to put even our most seasoned members to the test and it definitely isn’t going to be easy!

“We are so happy to be celebrating six years in business and we want to thank each and every one of our members for continuing to be a part of The Gym family. Our members are very loyal and work so hard to achieve their personal fitness goals and we really couldn’t be prouder!”
