Gloucester Cathedral and Docks Winter Thaw by Emily Shepherd

Gloucester City Council has been joining in with English Tourism Week by hosting a photography competition, showcasing Gloucester from the lens of amateur photographers.

There were 60 separate entrants in the competition, and although the standard was very high, ten finalists were selected.

The winner was decided yesterday by Mayor Sebastian Field at the Tourist Information Centre. The name of the winning photograph is Gloucester Cathedral and Docks Winter Thaw by Emily Shepherd

The ten photographs will be displayed at Gloucester Tourist Information Centre from Monday 29th February until the 13th March. The photographs will then go on display within the Tourist Information Centre.

There was no theme, except to show Gloucester at its very best.

English Tourism Week aims to promote the importance of the tourism industry to the country.

The winner has received a framed print of their image and can see it displayed for all to enjoy in Gloucester Museum.

Lise Noakes, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “The photographs we received were truly spectacular.

“The standard has been extremely high and it has been very hard for us to judge them and select the final ten and a winner.

“There is so much history and culture in Gloucester and I am pleased that the photographs have been able to capture it.”
