A £75,000 pot has been made available for voluntary and community group projects within the city.

The funding was approved at last night’s cabinet meeting at North Warehouse and makes £25,000 available for Community Grants and £50,000 for Youth Grants to help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of Gloucester residents.

Each voluntary, community group or social enterprise in the city can apply for up to £2,500 to support projects within Gloucester to deliver activities in Gloucester for at least 12 months.

The panel will give priority to applications that clearly show how they’ll benefit residents and how they fit in with the council’s key objectives.

Previous recipients of funding include Gloucester Street Pastors who received £1,200 from the Community Grants fund to support the work they do patrolling the city centre.

Last year, Gloucestershire Young Carers were awarded £2,500 from the Youth Grants fund to help young people take a break from their caring roles, mix with other young carers and access trained youth workers.

Applications must be submitted by 31st August 2017 with a review panel allocating the funding during September.

The Members Allocation Fund is also back for 2017/18, with each local councillor having £1,000 to go towards supporting local initiatives such as making improvements to the local area, environment or improve safety in their community.

Applications can be made to your councillor all year round and you can find out who your local member is by visiting: http://democracy.gloucester.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx.

Cllr Jennie Watkins, cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods at Gloucester City Council, said: ““We want to continue supporting the great work of the voluntary and community sector to enable more people to be active within their communities.

“This funding will help to improve the lives of people in the city and I would encourage all groups and organisations to apply for funding to support projects.”

Applications must be submitted electronically by e-mailing grants@gloucester.gov.uk.
