Elmbridge Court roundabout update by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Improvements to Elmbridge Court roundabout continue to progress on schedule. Next week the current traffic lights will be removed to make way for the new ones to be installed.
From Monday 8th May all traffic lights will be switched off at Elmbridge Court roundabout. Crews will then be able to start removing the existing signals and installing the new ones.
To ensure safety, new road markings will be put in place at the non-signalised junctions. The existing ‘stop’ lines will be removed and replaced with ‘give-way’ markings.
Installing the new traffic lights at the roundabout is a complex job. In order to keep the roundabout open at all times throughout the works, it will have to be carried out in specific phases.
Firstly the existing lights will be removed. The new signal bases, poles and cable ducting will then be installed.
The updated system cannot be fully completed until all the traffic detectors are in place. This will begin once the whole roundabout has been resurfaced.
The Elmbridge improvement scheme is currently on schedule and it is anticipated that the traffic light replacement work will be completed in September. In the mean time, signage will be in place on all of the approaches to the roundabout informing drivers to the absence of signals.
Scott Macaulay-Lowe, team leader for the Elmbridge scheme at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Replacing the traffic lights at Elmbridge Court is a complicated process, but a necessary one.
“Removing and replacing individual traffic lights is not a timely process. However, we’re not able to fully switch on the new lights until we have replaced the whole system.
“We are continuing to make good progress on the roundabout and we’d like to thank all road users for their continued patience whilst we carry out this work.”
