Dealership to kick off football match in aid of charity by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Members of staff at a car dealership in Gloucester will be taking part in a football match in aid of its ‘Charity of the Year’ this month.
Wessex Garages on Mercia Road has organised the event at the Newport International Sports Village on June 14 and some of the money raised will be donated to The Leukaemia & Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC) in Cheltenham.
Keith Brock, Managing Director at Wessex Garages, said: “Ahead of the European Championship game of England versus Wales on June 16 we thought it would be a great idea to host a charity football match between all of the Wessex Garages’ branches in England against all of the branches in Wales.
“We have four dealerships in England and three in Wales and members of staff from each outlet will form an English team and a Welsh team and battle it out on the pitch. As well as being a great team building exercise the event is to raise money for our charities of the year.”
Donations will be collected on the evening and Wessex Garages are taking £2 bets from all staff on the result of the game. All winning bets will then be entered into a raffle, where the first person drawn will win an extra day of holiday and the second person drawn will win half of a day holiday.
The money raised during the event will be split between the groups’ charities of the year. For the Gloucester dealership this will be LINC.
The charity supports patients and their families affected by leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. It is a relatively small charity, which aims to provide financial and psychological support to leukaemia and other cancer patients and their families in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and south Worcestershire.
Most commonly LINC helps with travel expenses for family members to visit their loved ones in hospital but can also help with other expenses such as mortgage payments. As well as this it also helps to make a patients stay more comfortable by funding new reclining chairs, televisions and DVD players at the hospitals.
The Wessex Garages’ charity football match will take place on Tuesday, June 14 from 8pm at Newport International Sports Village on Velodrome Way in Newport.
