Crews fire up for open day by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) will be holding an open day at SkillZONE and Gloucester South Fire Station on Saturday 3rd September.
The open day is free to attend, and will feature a host of activities, including fire service rescue displays, road safety activities and demonstrations.
GFRS staff will be joined by colleagues from Gloucestershire Constabulary with their mascot ‘Colin the Crocodile’ and South West Ambulance Service (SWASFT) with their interactive ‘Simbulance’, which is an exact replica of a front line ambulance and one of only three in the country.
Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), Tesco’s “Farm to Fork” healthy eating programme, the prison service dog display team, Gloucestershire’s Fire Cadets and the firefighter’s charity will also be on hand to showcase their skills.
Visitors will get the chance to find out more about SkillZONE and meet the volunteers who give safety advice to all sections of our community.
SkillZONE covers a range of dangerous situations to teach a wide age group of children and teenagers how to recognise and handle each scenario presented in order to stay safe.
Cllr Nigel Moor, cabinet member responsible for community safety, said: “Our fire station open days help us get some serious messages out there through a fantastic free day out for all the family.
“We want people to come along and have some fun while learning a few simple ways to stay safe.”
Stewart Edgar, Chief Fire Officer for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “These open days are a great opportunity for the fire and rescue service and our partners to engage with the communities we serve.
“Officers and volunteers that devote their time to keeping Gloucestershire residents safe will be on hand to give demonstrations and advice throughout the day.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to learn how to recognise and handle a range of dangerous situations in the safety of our SkillZONE environment.”
The event takes place on Saturday 3rd September, and runs from 12pm to 4pm.
