This week’s outstanding headline news comes from Sportbeat again with the announcement that their Sunday night headliners this year are the absolutely fantastic Manchester LEGENDS – Happy Mondays. This is sure to put a smile on the face of just about everyone, and it certainly did for me when I found out. I was a huge fan of Bez & the gang back in the 90’s so I can’t wait to hear tracks such as Step On, Kinky Afro and Loose Fit floating across Plock Court. Now…about those tickets… www.sportbeatfest.com

Rovin Fest have announced their line up for this year – and it looks pretty damn impressive. It’s great to see this boutique style event returning following their debut last year and it looks like they are looking to build on the success they enjoyed last year with some attractive names. The event takes place at Newlands Park in Cheltenham, home of Cheltenham Rugby club between 22nd and 24th July. The bill includes East 17, Fuse ODG, Freestylers, local favourites Young Kato, Dub Pistols, X Factor star Bupsi, Musical Youth, King Solomon and many more. Adult weekend tickets start at just £40 and are available from www.rovinfest.com

It was great to read about the Imjin Music Festival this week, and really exciting to hear that The Bootleg Beatles are set to play free. The whole event looks incredible and to see a spectacle of such magnitude in Gloucester is something that we should be very proud of. Tickets are free and can be obtained via from www.imjinmusicfestival.uk – the event takes place on 9th June.

Gig Of The Week

This week it’s something a bit different but very very special. The Convent in Stroud welcomes Scottish Folk band Rura on Sunday 22nd May. Since bursting on to the scene in 2010, as award winners at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival, Rura have firmly established themselves as a major force. The release of their heralded first album, Break It Up, in 2012 was accompanied by multiple award wins and nominations – including the running for the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award 2013. Their second album, released in April 2015, was one of the most hotly-anticipated, feverishly requested albums in recent years. Trust me – this is one beautiful sounding band, and the venue is stunning!!

Song Of The Week

This week’s song of the week goes to the immensely talented Lucy Jones. Lucy, a 17 year old folk singer from Wales, has been catching my attention for a while and recently sent me some tracks from her debut album Waiting For Love which is available on iTunes. To say I was blown away would be an unmitigated understatement. Her songwriting skill belies her tender years and really does spell what will undoubtedly a long and success career. The album is packed to the rafters with absolute class, and this week you can sample one such track – “Can’t Rely” – enjoy!!
