COLUMN: The Very Thing with Simon Rickards by Kate | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
We start this week with the exciting news of the return to Gloucester of global legends UB:40. Following the sell out show at GL1 last year they are set delight fans at the popular venue on Friday 28th October. Local promoter Bryn Williams said: “Last year’s date sold out in just over a day and UB:40 said it was one of the best in the tour so they couldn’t wait so they couldn’t wait to come back to Gloucester’s GL1.”
Bearing this in mind we reckon these tickets will be hot property so be sure to get yours as soon as possible. There’s a pre-sale that starts tomorrow (10th May) at 10am via www.seetickets.com. They go on general sale on Friday (13th May) also via See Tickets or via the Guildhall Box Office. You can call the Guildhall on 01452 503050.
Sportbeat are ramping up the announcements of their line up and have stormed it with another three fabulous acts this week. The outstandingly talented and widely tipped band NGOD, Cheltenham based beatbox/vocal/guitar combo and OUTRAGEOUSLY brilliant Duke, and the massively popular iconic British band Echo & The Bunnymen have all been added to ensure that the Plock Court arena is transformed into a festival heaven for everyone lucky enough to have a ticket. You haven’t got one? I think you better remedy that by nipping off to www.sportbeatfest.com and grabbing one right now!!
As I’ve said previously, and have no shame in saying again, my favourite festival in the whole world is Barn On The Farm. They’ve just given me more reasons as to why I love this amazing event so much with the second line up announcement for this year – and my word, haven’t they ever delivered what is becoming a regular feast of delights. Added to the already amazing bill are acts such as RY X, Dan Croll, Rag N’ Bone Man, Eliza And The Bear, Fickle Friends, Ryan Keen and Port Isla. Most excitingly is the announcement of the collaborative force of the aptly named Farm Band, made up of the collective talents of Gabrielle Aplin, Hudson Taylor, Hannah Grace & Joe Keogh of Amber Run. They are set to perform a collection of their own songs as one band – this surely will be a true highlight and one that gets the juices of anticipation flowing like never before. They haven’t even announced the Friday night line up yet, let alone who will headline it (which is always kept a secret until whoever it is takes to the stage) so it’s likely by the time it comes around it’ll blow your mind. This intimate festival truly is legendary and worthy of the kudos it gets year on year…so don’t miss out!!! Tickets are just about available still from www.barnonthefarm.co.uk
Gig Of The Week
When this gig was announced I was absolutely ecstatic – I couldn’t wait to go to it. Sadly I’m now in a hospital in Norwich and will be for some time, so that excitement is now replaced with sadness. So, I implore anyone that is going to enjoy it for my by proxy, and if you are lucky enough to be able to get your hands on a very rare ticket that may still exist then I’m jealous – but in the best possible way. And here’s why – the amazing Kula Shaker are this week’s gig of the week and will play Gloucester’s Guildhall on Friday 13th May. Far from being an unlucky day, this makes it the luckiest day imaginable (at least for those going). Kula Shaker are pioneers of their sounds – who can forget such hits as Govinda or Hey Dude – this really will be a very special night. I want to see as many pictures and reviews of the gig as possible so make sure you post them all up on your Facebook walls and share them out with Gloucester News Centre so I can see them!!
Song Of The Week
As mentioned above, Hannah Grace will be playing at Barn On The Farm not just as part of the Farm Band collective, but also performing her own solo set. I’ve seen Hannah a few times now and am always absolutely blown away by her powerhouse vocals and incredible songwriting skills. This week I’ve picked one of her tracks as song of the week to give you an idea of just why I rate her so highly and why you should definitely check her out. The track is called Keep Your Love – enjoy, it’s AMAZING!!
Keep Your Love:
