Changes to car parking in Gloucester by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
For the first time in a decade Gloucester City Council has announced it is raising the price of off street parking at car parks around the city.
This is the first time since 2007 that the council has increased prices, despite facing financial pressures in other areas and a recent £750,000 investment into the city’s Eastgate Shopping Centre car park.
The most recent change to parking rates came in 2012, when prices were reduced.
However, the need to carry out improvement works to the rest of the city’s car parks and the need to make a further £2.6 million savings over the next four years has meant the increase is needed.
These small increase range from between 10p and 50p depending on how long you park and where in the city.
To support the changes, parking rates are broken down into three zones:
Zone one (central) includes Eastgate Roof top, Longsmith Street, Kings Walk, Ladybellegate and Southgate Moorings.
Zone 2 covers Hampden Way, Hare Lane South, Station Road, Westgate Street and St Michael’s Square.
Zone 3 contains North Warehouse, Great Western Road, Castlemeads, Hare Lane North and GL1 car parks.
A full list of the prices for the zones and timing restrictions will be available at the council’s website www.gloucester.gov.uk.
These changes will come into effect on Friday 13th October.
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration and economy, said: “We’re committed to making our city centre as attractive and convenient as possible for our residents and visitors.
“We know the importance that fairly priced, quality car parking plays in supporting the city and this increase is the first we’ve made in ten years.
“I’m sure residents and visitors will agree that the price is modest in comparison to neighbouring areas and will help us to keep the city’s car parks clean, modern and functional.”
