Busy Shurdington Road prepares for night time improvements by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
The much used road A-road is undergoing one of the largest maintenance programmes that Amey Highways has ever delivered for the council.
Next month Gloucestershire County Council will resurface approximately 3.8 kilometres of one of the county’s busiest roads. Crews will use 3570 tonnes of tarmac over the scheme, the equivalent to 198 fully loaded fire engines.
Shurdington Road, which is the major A-road linking Cheltenham to the A417, will be closed Monday through to Friday between 7pm–7am. Crews will start the work on the 11th September and are scheduled to finish on 4th October 2017.
As the road carries high volumes of through traffic, with businesses, primary school and residents near by, crews will be working overnight to minimise the disruption.
On the approach from Cheltenham (north east of the scheme), diversions will be signed via the A40 (Cheltenham-Staverton-Elmbridge Court), A417 and back onto the A46. From the Gloucester side (south-west) the diversion will be the same in reverse
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: “This is one of the busiest roads in the county and one that we need to maintain. We appreciate there will be a small amount of disruption, however many locals and commuters will benefit from this new surface. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the works.”
Cllr Robert Vines, county councillor for Brockworth, added: “This road is an integral link of the highways network. As one of the most important and busiest stretches of road in the county, it is imperative that the surface here is maintained to the highest standard.”
