Police are appealing for information following a handbag theft in Gloucester.

On 31 March police were called at 12.10 to Alma Place, Gloucester where an 83 year old woman had been the victim of theft.  She was walking along Alma Place towards Bristol Road when a male on a stolen bicycle cycled up behind her and tried to grab her handbag.  The strap broke and the bag’s contents fell on the pavement.  The offender managed to grab the woman’s purse from the pavement and cycled off towards Seymour Road.

The offender is described as of mixed heritage, early twenties and wearing dark clothing.  Last week we reported a similar handbag theft from an elderly woman (Incident number 138 of 2 April 2018) while standing outside the Co-op on Seymour Road, Gloucester and we are linking the two incidents.

Fortunately the lady, though very shaken, was not injured.

We’d like to hear from anyone who can identify the man on the bike or who can help with our enquiries.  Please call 101 quoting incident number 154 of 31 March 2018.
